My name is Wes Olivier and I am currently a first year PhD candidate in Organic Chemistry. I attend St Clements Anglican Church, and have been part of this church for the last four years. In my free time I enjoy running, bushwalking and fishing.
I attended church as a child with my family, but I only became a Christian in early 2010 after I had started going along to a church and youth group with some of my Christian friends. By God’s grace, I came to believe not only that God existed, but that he dwelt amongst us, in the person of Jesus and that Christ had died on the cross and risen from the dead, so that I could be saved from my sins and be righteous in God sight. I came to realise, that it was right for God, who is supreme over everything and my Saviour, to be the object of my worship and praise and that I should obey what he has commanded in His word and find joy in Him, rather than the things of the world.
I have accepted the nominations because I desire to see the gospel reach University students and I want to support Uni fellowship in whatever ways I can, as we continue serve Christ in this way. I was a member of Uni Fellowship for several years during my undergraduate studies and God used Uni Fellowship to increase my understanding of and love for the gospel, and equipped me to share it with those who do not believe in Christ. I see serving on the executive as an opportunity for me to give back to a society that has been a great personal blessing to me for many years.
