The apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans has been called all sorts of things: ‘the highest peak in the mountain range of the New Testament’ or ’the tallest tree in the forest of Scripture’. The 16th century theologian Martin Luther said of it:

This letter is truly the most important piece in the New Testament. It is purest Gospel. It is well worth a Christian’s while not only to memorize it word for word but also to occupy himself with it daily, as though it were the daily bread of the soul. It is impossible to read or to meditate on this letter too much or too well. The more one deals with it, the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes.

Likewise, Luther’s contemporary John Calvin said that if we understand Romans, “we have an open door to all the most profound treasures” of the Bible.

So whether you know nothing about Christianity, or have been a devout Christian for many years, this will be a great opportunity to take part in a deep study of the Christian gospel.
